This white oak pepper mill has been fumed with ammonia. Ammonia fuming is a traditional process for darkening and enriching the color of oak. The fumes will permeate the oak and react with the tannins in it. This will cause a chemical reaction, turning the wood dark brown to black leaving the rays a much lighter color. The process leaves no chemical residue and totally safe.
This made in the USA pepper mill mechanism features a machined stainless steel grinding mechanism and is one of the finest available.
The grind is adjustable from course to fine by turning the knurled knob on the top. A spring mechanism makes the grinder setting smooth and consistent.
